Choose a Side:

• Depending on your allegiance in the Civil War, the path to becoming Thane differs.
• If siding with the Stormcloaks and emerging victorious in the war, Thane status is automatically granted, requiring no additional tasks or quests.
• Choosing the Empire requires completing certain missions for the citizens of Markarth to achieve Thane status.

Completing Tasks for Jarl Igmund:

1. Eradicate the Forsworn:
   • Jarl Igmund tasks you with eliminating the Forsworn group, notorious warriors in the region.
   • Engage in battles with these well-equipped fighters, destroying their camps to progress towards earning Thane status.
2. Retrieve Hrolfdir’s Shield:
   • Assist Jarl Igmund by recovering the symbolic item, Hrolfdir’s Shield, located near the Word Wall south of Bard’s Leap Summit, often guarded by Hagravens.
3. Property Ownership – Purchase Vlindrel Hall:
   • Acquire property by purchasing Vlindrel Hall in Markarth for 8,000 gold, a significant step toward earning Thane status.
   • Upgrading the house requires an additional 4,000 gold, but it’s unnecessary at this stage.
4. Aid the Citizens:
   • Assist at least 5 residents of Markarth by completing various quests and requests around the city.
   • These tasks are usually straightforward and offer a chance to be of service to the townspeople.

Achieving Thane Status:

• After successfully completing the assigned tasks, return to Jarl Igmund and demonstrate your assistance to at least 5 citizens.
