Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Aid Padirna and Access the Pantry Chest – Solve the Tiefling Dilemma

Navigate the intricate quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 involving a vengeful rat, an injured Tiefling, and the elusive Pantry Chest.

The lush Druid Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3 boasts not only the presence of Druids but also a transient group of Tieflings. In this enchanted setting, players may find themselves conversing with a rat seeking revenge due to a chipped tooth. The game’s richness lies in the choices it offers, from communicating through body language to employing the “Speak With Animals” spell. However, this seemingly straightforward quest takes a twist when an injured Tiefling, Padirna, obstructs access to the Pantry Chest, home to the “evil” the rat yearns to be rid of.

Unlocking the Pantry Chest in Baldur’s Gate 3:

1. Cast a Healing Spell: Employ a spell that heals paralysis, such as Lesser Restoration, on Padirna.
2. Stealth Maneuver: Utilize the Stealth skill to approach Padirna from behind discreetly.
3. Retrieve the Key: Open the Pantry Chest and remove the key while avoiding the watchful eye of Padirna.

Gaining access to the Pantry Chest presents a challenge. Players should save their progress and ensure that the Tiefling guarding her belongings is looking in the opposite direction. If things take a wrong turn, a quick save reload can rectify the situation. The Tiefling inside the pantry, despite noticing the intrusion, is in no condition to report it to the authorities.

Padirna’s incapacitation results from the effects of a homemade potion, and players can assist by casting a paralysis-healing spell on her. Lesser Restoration is a straightforward choice. Alternatively, players can switch to the character Shadowheart, who possesses access to this spell as soon as she reaches the level to cast level two spells. This abjuration spell is not exclusive to Shadowheart, as Bards, Druids, Paladins, and Rangers may also have access to it.

Once Padirna recovers, she becomes amicable, but she still watches over the storage room and will raise the alarm if anything is disturbed. To access the key in the Pantry Chest, players should position themselves in the room’s corner, which is Padirna’s blind spot. Open the chest while concealed by Stealth to secure the key. The key’s retrieval fulfills the vengeful rat’s desire for justice. When playing cooperatively with friends, assign the task to the party member with the highest Stealth skill.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available for PC, with the PlayStation 5 version released on September 6th, 2023. An Xbox Series X/S version is also under development.
