A Talented Pokemon Fan Artist Breathes Life into Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo with Captivating Human Forms

In the realm of Pokemon fandom, a gifted artist has undertaken the task of reimagining the Water and Grass-type Lotad from Generation 3, along with its evolutions, as captivating human characters—a concept known as ‘gijinka.’ The term ‘gijinka’ is a creative process that involves humanizing non-human characters and objects. In the Pokemon universe, it entails transforming pocket monsters into human-like figures. Gijinka art remains a beloved and thriving genre within the community, requiring substantial artistic skill and boundless imagination.
Lotad’s final evolution, Ludicolo, has amassed a dedicated fan base over the years. Originally caught by Brock, the Lotad evolutionary line made notable appearances in the Pokemon animated series. Ludicolo has also earned its reputation as a formidable competitive Pokemon, especially in rain teams, thanks to its Swift Swim ability, which doubles its speed when it’s raining. While Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo have been familiar to fans since the days of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, this artist’s interpretation breathes new life into these beloved creatures.
Reddit user and accomplished Pokemon fan artist, endifi, has taken the initiative to envision Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo as human characters and graciously shared their remarkable designs with the community. The gijinka versions created by endifi traverse from a small chibi-style character named Letianhe the Lotad to full-fledged adult anime characters: Dicola Runpa the Ludicolo and Tadow Runpa the Shiny Ludicolo. The intermediate stage showcases an adolescent-looking Lombrea, the Lombre. endifi is well-regarded for their expertise in crafting gijinka art, frequently sharing their delightful creations with the Pokemon community. Recently, the artist unveiled their imaginative take on the Ghost-type Pokemon Mimikyu as a human character in celebration of Halloween.
In the spirit of sharing art, endifi often includes engaging anecdotes about the piece or the Pokemon it portrays. The artist shares a fond memory of their childhood, confessing that they struggled to comprehend the process of evolving Lotad and Lombre into Ludicolo, particularly involving evolutionary stones. Curiously, they initially found Ludicolo’s design somewhat “freaky.” However, as time passed, endifi’s perspective shifted, and they now appreciate Ludicolo for its unique blend of “cuteness and hilarity.”
In a recent creative undertaking, endifi completed the task of crafting gijinka for every Johto pocket monster, culminating with a captivating human rendition of the mythical Pokemon Celebi. Presently, the artist has embarked on a similar endeavor for the Hoenn Pokedex. The previous project spanned approximately two years, indicating that it may be some time before they unveil a comprehensive collection of Gen 3 gijinka.
