Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to introduce its Zombies mode, aiming to bring a fresh twist to the undead genre. Inspired by Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak mode, it ventures into the realm of open-world PvE, offering what’s claimed to be the largest Zombies map in the franchise. While it introduces missions and a free-play area, questions arise about match duration.

A unique element is the increased player count, accommodating up to 24 players in a single match, divided into four squads of six. The Operation Deadbolt mode, mixing Outbreak and DMZ mechanics, adds intrigue. However, the rumored one-hour match duration may pose challenges. Traditional Zombies grow more formidable with each round, but MW3’s limited duration might undermine this appeal.
On the bright side, it ditches the classic round-based structure for an exfil mechanism, adding objectives and removing monotony. The augmented enemy population could counterbalance the time limit, as mowing down waves of zombies remains an enticing prospect.

With Operation Deadbolt, Activision and Treyarch take a calculated risk to breathe new life into Call of Duty’s Zombies mode. While it departs from the standard formula, it remains to be seen if this innovation will become the franchise’s crown jewel or a double-edged sword.
