Balancing gameplay, especially side bosses and gear in its live-service format, could pose challenges for Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game.

Rocksteady, renowned for its iconic Batman: Arkham series, remains a prominent player in the superhero video game arena. While their track record is impressive, the highly anticipated Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League appears to face significant hurdles. The recent revelation of a multiplayer live-service looter-shooter approach has tempered initial excitement about the game announced in 2020.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had remained relatively enigmatic in terms of gameplay, with minimal details shared until February of the current year. Unfortunately, the revelation of its multiplayer live-service looter-shooter format left fans somewhat disheartened. As this genre often grapples with balance issues, particularly in the context of boss fights.
Rocksteady has a strong track record when it comes to boss fights in its games. While the Batman: Arkham series delivered memorable encounters, balancing challenges may arise in Sui-cide Squad’s side boss battles. The core issue facing Suicide Squad is the need to establish adversaries that are formidable enough to warrant the attention and combined firepower of the entire Suicide Squad, without being as overwhelming as the Justice League.

With the game undoubtedly saving the Justice League and Brainiac for the primary narrative, Rocksteady must identify opponents who remain formidable without reaching the power level of the primary antagonists. While formidable, classic Rocksteady villains such as Two-Face, Riddler, Penguin, and Bane might not warrant the entire Suicide Squad.
The solution might include introducing formidable adversaries like the Teen Titans, posing a significant threat without Justice League-level might.
However, the balancing challenge doesn’t stop at side bosses. As a looter-shooter, the risk of players obtaining overpowered weapons or gear early in the game can undermine boss encounters. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League needs to approach gear and weapon balance with utmost care.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set for release on February 2, 2024, available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
