The latest 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077 has introduced heartfelt tributes to the beloved characters from the Netflix anime series, Edgerunners. These touching memorials have sparked speculation among players about the possible presence of an Edgerunner character hiding somewhere in Night City.

Players stumbled upon these tributes while exploring the Columbarium, a location on the eastern side of Night City that serves as a cemetery. In this solemn place, the cremated remains of the city’s deceased residents are laid to rest, each accompanied by a neon sigil representing their character and a short epitaph.
The Edgerunners anime series, consisting of 10 episodes, witnessed the tragic demise of several fan-favorite characters, some of whom met their brutal ends at the hands of the cybernetic menace, Adam Smasher. The recent 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077 has expanded the Columbarium with new niches dedicated to honoring these fallen Edgerunners.

These memorials include tributes to David and Gloria Martinez, Kiwi, Rebecca, Julio, and a collective one for Pilar, Dorio, and Maine. David’s epitaph stands out as particularly poignant, bearing the words: “you didn’t take me to the Moon, but you were there with me,” alluding to a significant moment from the series.
Many players have speculated that Lucy Kushinada, another character from Edgerunners, may have been behind the creation of these memorials. This has led some to believe that Lucy could be living incognito somewhere in Night City, continuing her digital existence. Reddit users, like Gylfagi3 and Dadude564, have enthusiastically embraced this theory, with comments like “She’s out there somewhere, boys and girls. I want to believe” and “Lucy in Phantom Liberty confirmed.”

Cyberpunk 2077’s highly-anticipated major DLC, “Phantom Liberty,” is set to release next week following the 2.0 update. This update has brought substantial improvements and changes to the base game. IGN’s glowing 9/10 review highlights how “Phantom Liberty marks a new chapter for Cyberpunk 2077 and is finally close to what I’d hoped it would be.”
