Unlock Secrets and Supplies in Alan Wake 2 with This Key Location Guide

In the spine-tingling world of Alan Wake 2, players find themselves navigating through the unnerving Oceanview Hotel as they unravel the mysteries and confront the dark forces that haunt the author’s existence. Amidst the game’s genre shift to survival horror and its intensifying combat scenarios, Alan Wake 2 introduces a plethora of mind-bending challenges and puzzles. Some of these enigmas are integral to the main storyline, while others are optional quests and hidden objectives. Although not obligatory for progression, they often yield supplementary narrative insights and valuable resources like ammunition and health packs.

Among Alan Wake 2’s side objectives, one can be accomplished during the exploration of the Oceanview Hotel, specifically in the chapter Initiation 5: Room 665. While venturing through this enigmatic hotel, players may stumble upon Room 209, a locked room on the second floor emitting faint, eerie humming sounds. Those familiar with the game might suspect that this room harbors the reality’s version of Sheriff Tim Breaker. For players seeking a straightforward answer, the key to Room 209 can be found in Room 206, but obtaining it is not as simple as it seems. If you’re having trouble locating the key, this guide will walk you through the process.

Where and How to Obtain the Oceanview Hotel Room 209 Key in Alan Wake 2:

  1. Start your journey from the main entryway on the first floor of the Oceanview Hotel. Head north, and then take the left hallway leading to Room 104. In a curious twist of dream logic, this will transport you to Room 225 on the second floor, a safe space in Alan Wake 2.
  2. Attempt to enter Room 206 from the nearest eastern hallway, but you’ll find that the door is locked. Fortunately, there’s an alternative route.
  3. Proceed south down the long straight hallway on the second floor, passing both the stairwell and Room 219, until you reach the alternate entrance to Room 206 (which is labeled Room 216 from this perspective).
  4. Enter Room 216 and discover evidence of a lively celebration. Inside, you’ll find the key to Room 209 resting on a table. Exit by unlocking the eastern side door from within, providing easy access back to the slanted part of the hallway.
  5. Return to your original destination, Room 209, and unlock it with the newly acquired key.

Unlock Room 209 & Find Sheriff Breaker:

Upon unlocking Room 209, you’ll uncover the source of the mysterious sounds – Sheriff Tim Breaker himself. Engage in a dialogue with him, during which he makes a reference to one of Alan Wake 2’s Easter eggs related to a well-known television show. Loot the supplies from Tim’s stashes on the side, and most notably, examine Tim’s map on the wall, which marks the locations of all the Words of Power scattered throughout the Oceanview Hotel.

Having unraveled the enigma of Room 209 and reassured Tim Breaker, you are now free to continue through the remainder of the chapter. Alternatively, you can have Alan exit the Hotel and venture to the nearby safe room to follow up on Saga Anderon’s storyline back in Bright Falls.
