The official website for the anime adaptation of Ken Kawasaki and Yū Furusawa’s manga “Oi! Tonbo” (Hey! Tonbo) has unveiled an exciting teaser trailer and a captivating visual on Tuesday. This teaser brings news of the anime’s highly anticipated television premiere in spring 2024. Additionally, it highlights the involvement of the renowned animation studio OLM in the production, with assistance from SMDE for the CG animation.
The manga’s narrative unfolds with the introduction of Igarashi, a former professional golfer who faced disqualification following a mysterious “incident.” Seeking refuge from the spotlight, he relocates to the Tokara Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture, renowned as “Japan’s last unexplored wilderness.” It’s here that he encounters a seemingly naive girl named Tonbo.
Surprisingly, these ostensibly uncharted islands boast a homemade golf course where Tonbo spends her days honing her skills. She exhibits a remarkable and almost supernatural talent, mastering various golf shots using only a single club, a 3-iron. Igarashi is both astonished by Tonbo’s abilities and intrigued by her choice of a 3-iron as her sole club. However, beneath Tonbo’s cheerful exterior lies a profound and poignant past.
The manga’s creator, Ken Kawasaki, and artist Yū Furusawa, embarked on this captivating journey when they launched “Oi! Tonbo” in Weekly Golf Digest, a golfing magazine published by Golf Digest Sha Co., Ltd., back in August 2014. The manga has since gained considerable popularity, with the 46th compiled volume hitting the shelves on September 1st.
As the anime adaptation of “Oi! Tonbo” prepares to make its debut in spring 2024, fans can anticipate an engaging and heartfelt story filled with golfing prowess and the intriguing tales of its characters.
