Chocobo taming and treasure hunting are set to enhance the expansive world of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, promising over 100 hours of gameplay and storytelling.
Square Enix has recently released new footage showcasing chocobo taming and treasure hunting, two exciting gameplay mechanics featured in the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. With the beloved chocobo taking center stage, fans, both returning and new, can anticipate an enriched experience in the highly anticipated game.
In contrast to the previous titles in Square Enix’s portfolio,
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth emphasizes the role of chocobos not as singular creatures but as integral components of optional side activities spread throughout the game. Building on teasers from Tokyo Game Show 2023, Square Enix has now offered a detailed look at the chocobo taming process in new clips published on their Japanese-language X accounts. Players will need to approach chocobos cautiously, employ bait to divert their attention, and mount them to initiate the taming process. Functionally, chocobo taming resembles horse taming in the vein of titles like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Beyond aiding players in traversing the game world, chocobos will also facilitate the discovery of hidden items through a treasure hunting mini-game. Furthermore, every character within the player’s party will have the opportunity to ride chocobos in-game, including the peculiar sight of Red XIII riding a chocobo, as witnessed in the last extended gameplay reveal.
According to Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the game will feature chocobos playing an essential role, allowing players to explore the expansive world map. Different chocobo types, such as mountain and sky chocobos, will assist players in overcoming obstacles like sheer cliffs and chasms.
Chocobos are also central to the game’s side content, with chocobo racing planned at the Gold Saucer. Players can enhance each in-game encountered chocobo’s unique stats by equipping them with various pieces of equipment.
