Experience the world of BG3 from a goblin’s perspective with the ‘Whispers of the Fey – Goblins Race’ mod.

In role-playing games (RPGs), the allure of embodying weird, somewhat villainous, and non-human fantasy races is undeniable. Whether it’s playing as a Half-Orc, Dragonborn, or Tiefling, the thrill of exploring a rich fantasy world as a unique character is hard to resist. Given the incredible depth and reactivity of Baldur’s Gate 3, it was only a matter of time before modders introduced options to play as some of the unplayable NPC races. Modder Tripsadin has now fulfilled the desires of many by enabling players to experience the game as a Goblin through their mod, “Whispers of the Fey – Goblins Race.”
This mod introduces Goblins as a character creation option, utilizing NPC faces from the base game. The Goblins created using this mod are compatible with the armor sets available in the vanilla game. Players who choose to play as Goblins will also receive the same bonuses as those in the base game, including Fey Ancestry and Darkvision. Tripsadin didn’t stop there; the mod also includes two special Goblin abilities directly from the 5E Dungeons & Dragons tabletop rules.
Nimble Escape grants players a lighter version of the Rogues’ Cunning Action,
Allowing them to use Disengage and Hide as bonus actions. The mod also features “Fury of the Small,” which lets players double their proficiency bonus for damage a certain number of times per long rest, provided the creature they are facing is larger in size.

The mod presents a fantastic concept and a glimpse of the potential for additional playable races. However, it’s important to note that modded races may lack the unique racial dialogue options available to other characters. In the future, “Whispers of the Fey” might benefit from incorporating another playable race’s distinctive dialogue, such as Half-Orcs, to create a more authentic experience.
There’s also the question of whether Larian Studios, the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3, would consider expanding the roster of playable races in a potential Baldur’s Gate 3 Definitive Edition or expansion pack. Races like Hobgoblins and non-Hob Goblins are already in the game as non-playable races, while iconic D&D races like Yuan Ti Purebloods, Githzerai, and Genasi could provide exciting additions to the game world.
To enjoy the “Whispers of the Fey – Goblins Race” mod, players need to use the BG3 Mod Manager and ImprovedUI mods. It’s advisable not to forget the latter to ensure a seamless gaming experience, as missing it might lead to unexpected results in the game.
